Gift of Securities

A gift of securities is the transfer of ownership of financial assets such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds to a recipient, most often a charitable organization, without receiving financial compensation. 

As with any charitable gift, you will receive a tax receipt for the fair market value of the donation in the amount of the closing trading price on the day we receive the transfer of securities. As each case may be unique, please consult your financial advisor, who will be able to provide you with specific information on the tax implications and benefits that apply to you. 

Give a gift of securities in three simple steps: 

1. Fill out our Gifts of Securities transfer form [link here] 
2. Instruct your broker to transfer the securities by sending them your completed transfer form 
3. Your broker and the Conservancy will complete the transfer 

 Please remember to mail or email a copy of your securities transfer form to the address below, so we can thank you for your generosity and ensure your gift is properly stewarded.  

Gifts of securities can be a meaningful way to make a difference in conservation, education, and the well-being of the animals that call the Toronto Zoo home. Giving a gift towards the area of greatest need allows the funds to be used immediately by the Conservancy where it will make the most impact.

Yes. By making us aware of your transfer, we can inform our broker of the incoming gift, which may help expedite the process.

As with any gift to the Conservancy, donors will be recognized according to their level of giving in our annual report, published online yearly. If you wish for your gift to remain anonymous, please indicate so on your stock transfer form, and we will honour your request.
