Your Toronto Zoo’s
Master Plan

Watch What We Zoo Next!

For nearly 50 years, your Toronto Zoo has provided everyone who walks through their doors an opportunity to see amazing wildlife, connect with nature, and experience a breath of fresh air and solace within a short commute from downtown.

Your Zoo has also played a critical role as a place of ground-breaking science and research to protect and improve the plight of species in peril during a time of accelerated decline and extinction.

Your Toronto Zoo is looking ahead—20 years into its future. Like much of the world, we look forward with alarm and urgency but also with energy, inspiration, and vision.

At the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy, we are inspired and encouraged by our community of supporters, who, like us, share our passion for seeing a future where wildlife and wild spaces thrive.

In this exciting new chapter, you can play a role in our vision for the future of your Toronto Zoo. You can play a role in creating a world-class zoo that will change the world.

INDOOR AFRICAN SAVANNA

White Rhino

This multi-species, expansive indoor habitat is currently in the planning phase. It will allow warm-weather animals to roam and interact with each other and provide Zoo guests with the opportunity to connect with them year-round. In addition, the new space will have event, retail, and interactive spaces.

RED PANDA HABITAT

Our Red Pandas are branching out! This new space is currently in the planning phase, but these boreal animals will be getting a new, larger multilevel indoor viewing space that can be viewed by Zoo guests. The habitat will complement their outdoor forest living area, giving them the opportunity to seek cooler options during the summer months.

Capital Campaign Projects Within the Next 10 Years

CANADIAN SPECIES CONSERVATION BREEDING CENTRE

For more than 30 years, your Toronto Zoo has both led and participated in recovery plans for endangered species.

A larger and purpose-built space will enable your Toronto Zoo to breed and raise more endangered animals for release into the wild.

As one of only a few such facilities in Canada, the Canadian Species Conservation Breeding Centre will facilitate technological and scientific advancement in the critical area of wildlife conservation.

SANCTUARY & NUTRITION CENTRE

We will create a nurturing space that feeds, cares for and rehabilitates wildlife.

The space will be a sanctuary for saving exotic rescued animals that are confiscated from smuggling or illegal ownership. It will include both indoor and outdoor habitat spaces as well as a quarantine space to accommodate different species’ needs.

The current Nutrition Centre has outgrown its space. The new facility will be a production centre for animal diets but will also offer an opportunity for guests to observe your Toronto Zoo’s nutrition expertise first-hand.
